This impressive architectural piece was commissioned from Terrence Clark by Garden Designer Richard Marti in 2003 as the entranceway to his show garden in Rüti near Zürich Switzerland. The frame is made of local Swiss Limestone from Canton Glarus and comes in 7 sections.
Terrence Clark is recognised as one of the leading artist blacksmiths in the world. His collaboration with Richard Marti continues to this day!
He has exhibited on a number of occasions, including the Victoria & Albert Museum’s Towards a New Iron Age in 1982 and in the USA as well as at Sotheby’s. In 1991 he was Forgemaster at the First International "Forge In" in Ireland He has won numerous competitions and prizes and organised and chaired the International Blacksmithing Conference in Ironbridge, Shropshire in 1985. In 1986 he was the first Artsmith to have a gate accepted in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition under sculpture and has also served as Editor of British Blacksmith magazine now rebranded by him as the Artist Blacksmith.
His large workshop is tucked away in a barn near Guildford where Clark and his team forge elaborate gates, church furniture, spiral staircases, even delicate pieces of jewellery. Clark is emphatic that all the work, from initial design right through to completion and installation is done by him and his team of smiths. He is renowned for the quality and attention to detail in each piece in which even locks and hinges are individually designed. His signature of authenticity is a small snail which is put on each piece and which can be found on these gates on the right hand panel.
