Socle badly degraded and damaged; bust with old crack, non structural, running up between breasts; bust appears to have been given a white wash at some stage; nose replaced possibly cover up damage to chin; one section of hair ribbon to right of head probably replaced others also with repairs; few other small chips no other visible losses or damages. |

The original statue of the Venus of Arles is in the Musée du Louvre. It is in Hymettus marble and dates to the end of the 1st century BC.
It may be a copy of the Aphrodite of Thespiae by Praxiteles, ordered by the courtesan Phryne.
