Tethys (Goddess of the Sea)
Bronze
216cm high
This piece originally stood in Margate town centre and is supported by a wooden plinth salvaged from Margate Pier
From circa 1986 the sculpture stood as the central feature in Margate Town Centre and represents Tethys rising from the waters and wreckage of the Old Pier with Tethys supported by a solid timber post, the post having been salvaged from the old Margate pier/jetty (built in 1897) and likely to be a hardwood known as Greenheart.
