Lot 13

A carved white marble fountain

Italian, 19th century
of a boy seated on a rocky outcrop with a dolphins mouth plumbed for water, above a scalloped clam shape bowl
figure 94cm high, bowl 90cm wide

Condition: Originally this fountain would probably have had a base under the bowl. In the house it has come from it was resting on a wooden plinth with a plumbed drainage pipe going through the centre of the bowl. There is also one other old drainage hole plugged with concrete. Overall the marble is dirty and in need of cleaning, there are traces of old paint, some loss of surface detail due to being kept outside at some stage of its life, old crack going through left and right ankle of putto, however neither crack appears to be structural and has no movement, dolphin mouth also plumbed for water, other small chips and scratches, other side of bowl has two filled drainage holes. Overall in need of professional cleaning (a referral can be made upon request to the successful buyer).
Estimate: £3,000 - £5,000
Hammer price: £3,600
